2013 YEAR END AWARDS
Its has been a really great first year with the site for me… I hope you have been having as much fun reading it as I have had putting it together. With that in mind, here are the first of what I hope will be many YEAR END AWARDS starting with…
BEST TELEVISION SERIES
Breaking Bad arguably has been the best show on television since Band of Brothers and the series finale was no exception. A lot of times with long running shows, the series seems to stay a little past it’s welcome and get dull like Dexter, or not know how to conclude leaving you with too many un-answered questions, like Sopranos. Breaking Bad does neither of these things. It has what may be one of the perfect endings in television history (right along side Six Feet Under).
2013 saw several really good movies such as the new Hobbit movie and Gravity, but to me The Man Of Steel stood out. Other then the original hokey Christopher Reeves Superman movies, I have never been much of a Superman fan. This movie changed that. While sticking firm to the tried and true origin story, director Zack Snyder is able to breathe new life into it. This movie has the same uplifting, redeeming feel a Superman movie should have, but it also manages to be somehow gritty while doing so. This movie has me looking forward to seeing what Ben Affleck can do as Batman in the upcoming team up movie.
The 2013 reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise was everything I was hoping for… and more. It is quite possibly the best cinematic game I have ever played. We see Lara Croft as a young adventurer on her first expedition. Unlike most video game characters, Lara comes across as more of a real person trying to survive than a cocksure hero. Sure by the end of the game you have killed a couple hundred bad guys, but at least you will have a good time doing it. The game has a great upgrade system that will have you trying all of your weapons, before eventually returning to your trusty bow.
To me, Tomb Raider is everything a good video game should be. It takes you on an adventure and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
So concludes this years short but sweet Year End Awards. Please let me know your favorites in the comments below.
