Jupiter Ascending was a much better movie than I thought it would be, but I went into it with the lowest of expectations. Critics across the board have pretty much dismissed this movie as terrible. While the movie isn’t great, it was well worth the watch.
The story has a lot of room for improvement, and is a little confusing at the start… and some of the acting is downright terrible. Eddie Redmayne spends most of the time whispering his lines, until he decides to scream then instead, often changing in mid-sentence. Even heavy hitters like Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, and Sean Bean don’t appear to be giving it their all; however, they are good enough.
The CGI and action shots in this movie are amazing. While The Wachowski’s may not have written anything outstanding since The Matrix, they still excel at cinematography most evident in the way they put together action scenes. That alone makes this worth spending a couple hours on.
If you go into this movie, knowing there is no greatness to be found you should still be able to enjoy it. Watch it if your in the mood for a summer popcorn type action flick.
